Having the Right Gear is Key

This past weekend I had a younger customer come by and he was talking about all the gear he’s bought over the years and how none of it really works great and has come apart after a few uses. He also talked about his friends who buy a rod from some new rod builder because it’s the new thing to have and then it doesn’t work well so you see them all for sale cheap a week later.

I want to once more express how this goes — usually the tackle shop owner is so busy running his or her tackle shop that he or she hasn’t actually been able to go offshore for years so the likelihood of he or she recommending up-to-date gear is really slim to none.

Everyone is a rod builder nowadays, but very few are complete outfitters. This is what I do, meaning I can pair my customers with the best-of-the-best gear, the first time, so there is absolutely no question. They will be well equipped when it comes down to crunch time.

And we're not talking puppy dog fish either. These are the fish of a lifetime, potentially 800+ lb. swordfish. You can hear Capt. Mutton Mike D talk about a few fish of a lifetime he’s seen over the years as a fishing guide and a few he’s hooked on Gulfstream Custom Rods in the past year that we’ve been a proud sponsor, all on our new Hamilton's Hotsauces podcast coming out on IGTV soon.

Having the right gear really is key when targeting large fish, like this younger gentlemen that was saying all his custom rods have failed except for the couple he’s got from Gulfstream and he's running his own business fishing when he can and making a good living doing it, depending on my custom rods and attention to quality, to keep him working.
